Alabama is a state that sees a significant amount of daily travel, both for personal and business reasons. Recently, in 2023, a mayor from another state made headlines when she used taxpayers’ money to purchase multiple hotel rooms in Alabama for herself and her security guards. This controversial move received widespread attention and backlash, leading to the intervention of the FBI.

“Tiffany A. Henyard, who refers to herself as the “Super Mayor,” has granted her supervised police officers over 300 hours of overtime in just two weeks. Additionally, she maintains a security detail accompanying her throughout the day. On a trip to Alabama, Henyard incurred expenses of $957.28 for hotel rooms in Montgomery and $213.33 for rooms on a different day in Birmingham. Moreover, she and her team made multiple visits to Las Vegas within the same year.”

On February 22, 2024, according to a report by MSN News, FBI agents instructed Henyard to halt her efforts to seek campaign donations.

According to the article, it was mentioned that:

Separately, a law enforcement source confirmed federal authorities, including the FBI, are conducting an investigation targeting Henyard. The source said the probe has included recent interviews by investigators both inside and outside of Dolton, but is in the early stages and no charges have been brought. The attorney generalโ€™s letter, dated Wednesday and sent by certified mail, notes the Tiffany Henyard CARES Foundation is not in good standing and states the attorney general has sent multiple letters advising, among other things, that it is not registered with the state.

According to Western Journal, Henyard’s leadership has left the town burdened with over $7 million in debt. Furthermore, Henyard herself receives an annual salary of $280,000. As a result of these financial concerns, several members of the council have raised questions about Henyard’s spending habits, leading to tension among the board.
