A man from Johnson County named Travis Lee Martin, also known as “Fat,” has received a prison sentence of over 16 years for his involvement in drug trafficking, according to officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Martin has already pleaded guilty in a dog fighting case and is currently awaiting sentencing along with other defendants involved in the same case.
Martin received a sentence of 200 months for his involvement in a Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Heroin, according to officials. The charges against him include the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, as well as 100 grams or more of heroin.
Officials have revealed that Martin is one of the 12 defendants who were indicted after a three-year investigation into a drug operation involving methamphetamine and heroin in Lauren, Truelten, Johnson, and Emanuel counties. This operation led to the confiscation of drugs, firearms, and cash.
According to authorities, the investigation also resulted in the rescue of 86 dogs that were believed to be involved in a dog fighting operation across three counties. In this particular case, Martin has admitted guilt for conspiring to violate the Animal Welfare Act. Officials have stated that he is currently awaiting sentencing, which will be served consecutively to his other case.
Martin has been fined $5,000 by officials and will have to serve five years of supervised release once he is released.
