Investigation launched into NY officer’s ‘racist’ biscuits & gravy post targeting GA jailers

A corrections officer from New York is currently being investigated for a social media post that mocks prison guards in Georgia.

Sgt. Michael Bourhill, a corrections officer from Westchester County in New York, stands accused of sharing a group photo of Georgia corrections officers. The photo was accompanied by a caption that read, “They must serve some delicious biscuits and gravy at the Georgia Department of Corrections.”

He expressed his frustration with a simple yet impactful exclamation: “Damn!!”

The Department of Corrections recently discovered an inappropriate social media post and has initiated a formal investigation. According to a statement given to Channel 2 Action News, posting or sharing inappropriate images goes against the Westchester County Employee policy. Employees who violate this policy will face formal disciplinary charges.

The Westchester Correction Association expressed their concerns about the post, stating that it is unprofessional and inappropriate for any law enforcement supervisor. They further highlighted that the content of the post is deeply racist and demeaning.

Channel 2 Action News conducted an investigation and discovered that the photo featured in the post was taken during the Georgia Department of Corrections’ Sergeants Academy graduation in 2019, as shared on their official Facebook page.

According to The New York Post, the corrections officer and the corrections supervisors union representing him did not respond to a call seeking comment on Wednesday.

The Georgia Department of Corrections declined to provide a comment on this story, according to Channel 2 Action News.
