French authorities are currently conducting a manhunt following a tragic incident in which two prison officers lost their lives and three others sustained injuries. The attack occurred on a van that was transporting a convict from a courthouse to a prison in Rouen, northern France. According to French Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti, the assailants, armed with “heavy weapons,” targeted the convoy. One of the prisoners managed to escape amidst the chaos.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that every possible effort is being made to apprehend these criminals. He further emphasized that he personally instructed the mobilization of several hundred police officers and gendarmes for this purpose.
French President Emmanuel Macron took to social media to express his determination in bringing the culprits of this crime to justice. In a heartfelt message, he assured the French people that every effort is being made to identify and hold accountable those responsible for this heinous act.
President Macron expressed his solidarity with the families, the injured, and their colleagues, stating that the nation stands alongside them.
The French media has identified the prisoner as Mohamed Amra, a convicted burglar known by his nickname, “The Fly.”
According to public prosecutor Laure Beccuau, the suspect is currently under investigation for an alleged kidnapping and a separate homicide case in Marseille, as reported by The Associated Press.
The scene of the ambush was captured in pictures, revealing a forensic tent enveloping multiple vehicles and a notable presence of law enforcement officers.
According to Beccuau, the audacious assault on the prison convoy is being regarded as a potential case of organized crime. Additionally, a murder investigation has been initiated.
