Report Finds Democrats’ Disapproval of Biden’s Handling of US Border Reaches Highest Point in His Tenure

According to a recent report from the Pew Research Center, Democrats are expressing greater disapproval of the U.S. government’s management of migrant crossings at the southern border than at any other time during Joe Biden’s presidency.

According to the report, a significant majority of Democrats (73%) express dissatisfaction with the government’s management of the migration surge at the U.S.-Mexico border. This rating, which includes those who consider it “somewhat bad” or “very bad,” is only 11 percentage points lower than the disapproval ratings registered by Democrats during Donald Trump’s presidency in 2019.

The release of the report on Thursday reveals a troubling trend for Biden. According to Pew, there has been an increase in the disapproval of the government’s handling of the border among Democrats. Last year, 62 percent of Democrats expressed their disapproval, which was higher than the 56 percent recorded in 2021. It is worth noting that Pew does not track immigration attitudes on an annual basis.

Amidst the growing focus on immigration in various arenas, a recent report sheds light on the current situation. In light of his approach to handling migrant border crossings, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas faced impeachment by House Republicans on Tuesday. Additionally, Senate Republicans recently thwarted a border security deal, effectively concluding four months of unsuccessful negotiations aimed at bolstering border protections.

Former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi secured a resounding victory in the New York special election, held to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. George Santos. Immigration emerged as a contentious topic during the election, with Suozzi taking a firm stance on border security.

During his administration, Biden has faced ongoing criticism due to the record-breaking number of people crossing the border. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there has been a significant drop of 50 percent in the number of individuals crossing illegally from Mexico in January.

In a statement before Senate Republicans rejected the border security deal last week, Biden expressed his readiness to address the issue and ensure the security of the border.

Biden expressed his frustration, questioning the true intentions of those involved. “Do they genuinely want to find a solution to the problem? Or are they more interested in continuing to engage in political gamesmanship regarding the border?” Biden stated firmly. He emphasized that he has already made up his mind on the matter.

“In a recent statement, President Biden expressed his concern regarding the advancement of the bill, highlighting the perceived lack of border security. He attributed this issue to Donald Trump and his Republican supporters, stating that the American people will be aware of this situation leading up to November.”

According to the Pew report, a significant 78 percent of Americans surveyed view the influx of migrants at the southern border as either a “crisis” or a “major problem.” These findings align with other polls that highlight voters’ deep concerns regarding the situation at the border.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, a total of 5,140 adults were surveyed from January 16th to 21st. The survey has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 1.7 percentage points.
