A Nebraska native and Chiefs fan claims to have played a crucial role in apprehending a suspected shooter outside Union Station during the Chiefs Kingdom Champions Victory Parade rally on Wednesday afternoon.
Contreras mentioned that he took the initiative to apprehend the man, with the assistance of a fellow “good Samaritan,” who helped him maintain control of the suspect until the arrival of the police.
“He’s not giving up without a fight, but we’re determined to keep him from getting back on his feet,” he remarked.
Contreras recalled that the struggle felt like it lasted a long time, although it probably only lasted 15 to 30 seconds before the police arrived.
I stood there for about a minute or two, without exchanging a single word with the police officers. After they apprehended the suspect and placed handcuffs on him, I sat there with my three daughters for two minutes. Then, we calmly walked away, making our way towards our car.
Contreras admitted that although he didn’t witness the suspect firing the gun, his immediate response was to tackle him.
Alyssa Marsh-Contreras, the daughter of Contreras, sensed that something was amiss as she observed the sudden scattering and fleeing of the crowd.
“I didn’t want to leave my dad’s side because who knew what could have happened or if they needed help,” she explained. “So, my main focus was to ensure that his hat, phone, and wallet didn’t go missing while he apprehended the offender.”
