Iain Armitage is honoring a cast member from “Young Sheldon” who recently left the show.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the actor who portrayed the young version of Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory” expressed his affection for his onscreen father, George Sr., brilliantly played by Lance Barber. With genuine warmth, he wrote, “Love you, George! Love you, Lance!!!” in the caption accompanying the post.
In the latest episode of “Young Sheldon” titled “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture,” the show fulfilled a long-standing prophecy from its predecessor, “The Big Bang Theory.” In the original sitcom, it was revealed that Sheldon’s father passed away when he was 14 years old. Now, as Sheldon’s character on the CBS prequel, played by Iain Armitage, is also 14, fans of “Young Sheldon” knew that it was only a matter of time before George’s demise.
In an interview with Variety, executive producer Steve Holland explained the show’s decision to have George suffer a heart attack at work at the end of the episode, titled “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture.” Holland stated, “We wanted to do it in a way that was hopefully a little surprising. So that’s why it happens at the end of episode 12 – we thought maybe we can catch people off guard. Even though they know it’s going to come, maybe they won’t see it coming then.”

According to Holland, Barber has been aware of his character’s departure since the beginning of the show. Holland explained, “He’s known since the beginning of the show that George Sr. had an expiration date. We slowed time down a little bit… We stretched one year out into a couple seasons to keep Lance alive as far as long as we could. But he always knew this was coming.”
Tom Holland expressed his thoughts on Robert Downey Jr.’s departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Holland, he believes that the fact that it was the last season of Downey Jr.’s involvement made it a bit easier for him. Holland also praised Downey Jr.’s dedication to the role, stating that he truly wanted to be part of the experience.
The final two episodes of “Young Sheldon” are set to air on CBS next Thursday, May 16. Holland, the show’s creator, has given fans a glimpse of what to expect in the series finale. He hinted that the Cooper family will be dealing with the loss of George Sr., while Sheldon prepares for his new chapter at Caltech in California.
