A former Trump administration official scheduled to address Republicans in Springfield on Thursday emphasized the need for Illinois to assist in deporting foreign nationals who are in the country illegally if the former president is re-elected in November. If the state fails to cooperate, he argued, it should step aside and allow others to take action.
Last month, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker addressed the issue of Illinois being considered a sanctuary state. Although Pritzker refrained from using the term directly, he highlighted the TRUST Act implemented by his predecessor, Governor Bruce Rauner. This legislation limits the authority of local and state police to enforce immigration laws.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker expressed his concern over the practice of pulling someone out of their car and arresting them for speeding, only to then hand them over to ICE for deportation. He argued that getting pulled over for speeding should not result in such severe consequences.
Former Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Tom Homan, asserts that the magnitude of illegal immigration calls for an equally significant response in the form of deportation. He pledges that if former President Donald Trump is reelected, ICE will carry out deportation orders, disregarding Illinois’ legislation.
In a recent interview with The Center Square, Homan made it clear that if Illinois is unwilling to provide assistance, they should refrain from hindering the progress. He emphasized the determination to be present and actively involved in the situation.
According to Homan, by the end of Biden’s first term in office, there will be over 12 million foreign nationals in the country who crossed the southern U.S. border illegally.
According to Pritzker, the migrants in Illinois and the United States are legally present and seeking asylum. However, Homan disputes this claim, stating that it is not true.
According to the speaker, in the past decade, almost 90% of individuals who seek asylum at our border do not receive approval in U.S. courts due to either not meeting the necessary requirements or failing to appear for their court hearings.
With millions of migrants flooding the border illegally, those who are looking to migrate legally to the United States are being pushed to the back of the line, according to Homan.
He expressed concern for individuals who go through the process of waiting in line, taking the test, undergoing background investigations, and paying the necessary fees, as he believes that they are being unfairly penalized.
According to Homan, the porous border is not due to incompetence but rather a deliberate choice by President Joe Biden, as he is fulfilling his campaign promise. Homan warns that if this continues, it will lead to bankruptcy for the country. Illinois taxpayers have already spent over $1 billion on direct migrant care since Biden assumed office, and more expenses are anticipated.
Homan is set to deliver the keynote address at the Sangamon County Republicans Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday evening in Springfield.
