A 19-year-old individual believed to be involved in the incident is currently under suspicion.
He was arrested once again after allegedly shoplifting and attacking a loss prevention employee of Macy’s in Queens.
Federal agents apprehended Darwin Gomez-Izquiel at the Queens Center Mall at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to the police, he was involved in a theft incident where a group stole clothing valued at $600 from the department store. In the process of trying to apprehend them, a Macy’s employee was punched, resulting in minor injuries.
Gomez-Izquiel is facing charges of robbery and petit larceny. The crucial question at this point is whether a judge will grant him bail, given that he is suspected of committing two significant offenses in less than a month.
He was previously arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack on the officers on January 27. Despite this, he was released without bail.
According to a statement by the Police Benevolent Association, individuals who assault New York City police officers display a complete disregard for the law. The association emphasizes that when these offenders are not held accountable by the justice system, they feel empowered to victimize other residents of New York. The association firmly asserts that the offender in question must be re-incarcerated and remain there to ensure the safety of the community.
Earlier on Tuesday, a significant event took place.
He was arraigned in Lower Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon and held without bail.
Yarwuin Madris entered a plea of not guilty to a second-degree assault charge in connection with the incident on January 27th. Prosecutors, who are treating Madris as an adult, have expressed doubts about the age he provided, suggesting that he may actually be in his 20s.
Madris, along with two other suspects, 21-year-old Wilson Juarez and 19-year-old Kelvin Servita Arocha, was apprehended in the Bronx. Law enforcement initially suspected that they were on a bus en route to the California/Mexico border following the assault on the officers.
Law enforcement currently has custody of both individuals, who will remain in custody until their next court appearance for the officer attack.
According to a spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the NYPD apprehended another person in the Bronx yesterday. This arrest was made based on an arrest warrant related to our indictment. It is important to note that Wilson Juarez and Kelvin Servita Arocha were both present in the same apartment at the time of the arrest, despite false reports suggesting that they had fled New York City on a bus. Currently, five individuals involved in this incident are in custody, and our joint investigation with the NYPD is still ongoing.
Ulises Bohorquez, a 21-year-old individual, has been apprehended at the Randalls Island migrant shelter as the eighth person in connection with the attack. He is currently facing charges of assaulting a police officer.
The only suspect held on bail for attacking the officers, 19-year-old Yohenry Brito, was able to post his $15,000 bail on Tuesday and has since been released. It is believed that Brito’s arrest outside the shelter triggered the larger assault.
