University officials have confirmed this unfortunate event, which took place around midday near the area where the final graduates were entering Ohio Stadium. This incident has left a somber atmosphere amidst what should have been a joyous occasion.
The area was cordoned off by the police as they arrived at the scene. It was unclear at that moment whether the fall had been accidental or intentional, or whether it involved a student or someone else.
The university is aware of the death but has no additional information to share about what happened, according to university spokesman Benjamin Johnson in an emailed statement.
There were students and others at the ceremony who appeared visibly upset. However, despite the unsettling incident, the commencement proceeded as planned and the speakers chose not to address it.
According to CBS affiliate WBNS, a spokesperson stated in a statement that counseling and other support resources will be made available for anyone affected by today’s incident.
According to the university, the station reported that a total of 12,555 students were able to personally receive their diploma or certificate.
