Ryan Gosling returns to the big screen, trading in his stylish “Barbie” fur coat for a rugged stuntman’s jumpsuit.
In its recent debut, the movie “The Fall Guy” raked in an impressive $3.15 million during Thursday previews at the box office.
The film is projected to debut with a weekend opening of approximately $30 million, with some estimates reaching as high as $35 million or $40 million. In order to succeed financially, it will need to make a strong impact at the box office and generate positive word-of-mouth, as it was made with a substantial budget of $130 million.
Gosling takes on the role of Colt Seavers, an experienced stuntman, in Universal’s “The Fall Guy,” a film adaptation of the popular 80s TV show. In the movie, Colt decides to retire from the dangerous world of stunts after a horrific accident and ends his relationship with Jody Moreno, his girlfriend and camera operator. However, when Jody directs her first film featuring the renowned actor Tom Ryder, whom Colt previously doubled for, he is drawn back into the stunt industry and becomes entangled in a murder mystery. As Tom goes missing, Colt must search for him while performing daring stunts that push the limits of his abilities.
David Leitch, a former stuntman, brings his expertise to the director’s chair for “The Fall Guy.” With a resume that includes action-packed films such as “Bullet Train,” “Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw,” “Atomic Blonde,” and “Deadpool 2,” Leitch is no stranger to high-octane thrills. Having also worked as a stuntman on numerous films since the 1990s, Leitch brings a unique perspective to the project. Joining him in the cast are Hannah Waddingham, Winston Duke, Stephanie Hsu, and Teresa Palmer, adding even more talent to this exciting film.
Sony and Screen Gems’ horror film “Tarot” is set to open this weekend, aiming to earn between $5 million and $6 million. Meanwhile, in celebration of May the Fourth, “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” is returning to theaters for its 25th anniversary and is expected to make around $5 million this weekend.
