Out of this, 1.914 million units were from traditional album sales, which include sales of vinyls, CDs, cassettes, and digital downloads. Billboard changed its ranking system in 2014, shifting focus to the most popular album units instead of traditional album sales. Notably, Swift achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first artist to surpass one billion streams on the platform within just five days. Meanwhile, Apple Music engaged Swifties in a game where they could search for lyrics and uncover a secret code that revealed the opening line of “How Did It End?”: “We hereby conduct this post mortem.” In a tweet, the streaming service proudly declared that the album had shattered the record for the largest number of first-day streams for a pop album.
Taylor Swift has broken her own record for vinyl sales with her latest release. Previously, she sold 693,000 copies of “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” but this time around, she has sold a staggering 859,000 copies. One contributing factor to this historic achievement is the availability of four different vinyl variants for fans to choose from.
Solo artist with winning streak
In 2024, Swift surpassed the King of Rock and Roll as the solo artist with the highest number of weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart.
According to Billboard’s announcement on New Year’s Eve, “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” has maintained its position at number one, allowing the Mastermind Queen to surpass Elvis Presley’s previous record of 67 weeks with a remarkable 68 weeks. But it doesn’t stop there. With the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift now boasts an impressive total of 70 weeks at the top spot. It’s worth noting that The Beatles still hold the record with an incredible 132 weeks at number one.
