REMEMBERING LOUIS GOSSETT JR.
Louis Gossett Jr. passed away due to a lung condition, as stated on his death certificate.
TMZ has acquired a copy of the document that reveals the main cause of death as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The report also highlights heart failure and atrial fibrillation as contributing factors. According to the document, the late individual had been contending with COPD for several years.
According to the death certificate, Gossett’s body was scheduled for cremation. It also states that he was an actor who was actively involved in the entertainment industry.
As previously mentioned, we informed our readers about the unfortunate news of Louis Gossett Jr.’s passing. Gossett, who made history as the first Black man to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, peacefully passed away in late September in Santa Monica. Although no specific details regarding his death have been disclosed as of yet.
In the late ’60s and early ’70s, Gossett earned recognition and praise for his performances on stage. However, it was in 1977 that he achieved his breakthrough in Hollywood with his portrayal of Fiddler in “Roots,” sharing the screen with LeVar Burton and John Amos.
He has worked on several notable projects, including “Watchmen,” “Boardwalk Empire,” the ‘Iron Eagle’ film series, “Enemy Mine,” “The Deep,” and the recent adaptation of the Broadway musical “The Color Purple.”
Two sons, Satie and Sharron, survive him. Satie is from his second marriage, while Sharron was adopted after he saw him on a television segment about at-risk kids.
During our interview with Louis in 2021, he expressed his unwavering commitment to acting, even at the age of 85. True to his word, he has continued to pursue his passion.
He passed away at the age of 87.
