3-year-old girl allegedly taken by Nevada fugitive found in central Utah

A fugitive from Nevada was discovered and apprehended in Beaver, Utah, after reportedly seeking refuge at a campsite with his three-year-old daughter for an entire month in freezing temperatures. According to reports from ABC4, the fugitive was finally located and taken into custody.

Shawn Ashdown, a 50-year-old individual, has been incarcerated in Beaver County Jail. He is now facing multiple charges, including a second-degree felony for stealing a vehicle, as well as misdemeanor charges for unlawfully detaining a minor and child abuse. Additionally, Ashdown has outstanding warrants from Nevada.

According to the booking affidavit, Ashdown stole a red Hyundai Santa Fe belonging to a family member and took his three-year-old daughter from their residence in Ely, Nev. Allegedly, Ashdown expressed concerns about the girl’s mother being a negative influence and exposing her to THC. He claimed to have conducted a drug test on his daughter, which reportedly tested positive for THC.

Ashdown and his daughter have been staying at campsites for about a month since they fled Nevada. The arresting Beaver County Sheriff’s deputy noted that this living arrangement is dangerous.

According to the booking affidavit, the deputy mentioned that temperatures in the area had been consistently below freezing. He further stated that when he left for work that morning, he encountered frozen doors on his patrol vehicle, with each window covered in a solid sheet of frost.

Ashdown reportedly expressed to the deputy that had it been a few months later with warmer weather, he would have managed to evade capture.

According to the deputy, Ashdown reportedly claimed that he did not think the meat was spoiled.
